Natural Dying Using Blueberries with Maria Lozano from Blue Hour Goods
Have you ever wanted to experiment with dying your own clothes at home? Maria Lozano, an herbalist and entrepreneur from Santa Barbara, has mastered the use of natural dying processes while building her brand Blue Hour Goods.
For this tutorial, Maria chose to dye the P650 Hanes EcoSmart Sweatpants which are available on our site.
Step 1: Pick your fabric and your blueberries. Maria chose to use the Hanes P650 Ecosmart Sweatpants in White and one container of organic blueberries.
Step 2: In a pot, add enough water to submerge your fabric.
Add 1.5 cups of iodized salt.
Add your fabric and bring to a boil.
Let simmer for 30-40mins.
Step 3: Take 1 box of blueberries and mush into a paste.
Step 4: Take out your fabric from the simmering water.
Add mushed up blueberries to the water.
Bring the mixture to a boil.
Step 5: Remove pot from heat.
Add your fabric to the blueberry dye and let sit for a minimum of 2 hours.
Leave overnight for darker results.
Step 6: Rinse in cold water and let dry!
